They were apart for three years, before a heartwarming reunion last year.
And truly cemented her love for fiancé Liam Hemsworth when she released the video for her new song Malibu on Thursday, in which she paid homage to her betrothed with gushing lyrics and a dazzling display of her engagement ring.
While the 24-year-old’s partner is nowhere to be seen in the new clip, he is subtly included in the soft airy lyrics, in the way she is filmed and in her eye-popping daond which is back on her finger.
Miley and Liam began dating in 2010, when the starred together in The Last Song and in May 2012, he gifted her with a Neil Lane 3.5 carat daond ring.
Sadly the duo split a year later, which led to Miley’s slight derailing in which she began openly discussing her drug use and saucy antics although the star has calmed down hugely ever since.
In light of the reunion, Miley has released her gushing tribute to her betrothed in the sweet video and song which features lyrics relating to their three years apart.
The viewer gets to gaze on the singer adoringly in the clip made to look as though it is being filmed by Liam, with its low-fi camera angles and intimate shots.
Liam covered the art of the single, which Miley dropped on her Instagram on Wednesday. The video celebrates the love the pair have for each other and Malibu beach, California, where they fell for each other once again.
While the track and clip mark the return of their engaged status it also marks a departure from the sound Miley has given fans on her last two albums.
Gone is the hip hop-infused WiLL Made It-produced beats of Bangerz or the singing style found on Miley Cyrus Her Dead Petz.
Instead Miley resurfaces for a soulful and sweet track exploring her re-found love for her fiance atop the country sounds that made her famous.
In the song, the hitmaker sings that she never thought three years ago, referring to when they called off their engagement in 2013, that she would have been writing a long song about him, ‘But here I am, next to you’.
With a twang she croons: ‘We are just like the waves that flow back and forth/ Sometimes I feel like I’m drowning/ And you’re there to save me/ And I wanna thank you with all of my heart/ It’s a brand new start/ A dream come true in Malibu.’
She goes on to describe their perfect beach day: ‘We watched the sun go down as we were walking/ I’d spend the rest of my life standing here talking.’
While the song speaks of their perfect day, Miley lives that out on the video as the camera watches on.
The former child star goes for a drip, runs with balloons and spends some snuggle time with her pooch in the low-fi video.
Perhaps telling of her new seemingly more innocent musical phase or perhaps a nod to their upcoming nuptials, the songstress wears a series of white ensembles.
Miley wears everything from a sweater with white bikini bottoms to a romper during the video.
In fact the clip ends with a dream-like sequence of the singer twirling around on a cliff wearing a white dress which is short at the from but with a long wedding dress-like train.
Miley told Billboard magazine she decided to talk about her on-off relationship in song as it was on her own terms.
The star said People are ‘going to talk about me if I come out of a restaurant with Liam. So why not put the power back in my relationship and say, ”This is how I feel?”’
The star said she wrote Malibu while taking an Uber to the set of television singing contest The Voice, where she is returning as a coach.
It was announced on Wednesday that Miley will perform at the Billboard Music Awards. She will be doing her first televised performance of the new track.
